Demographics
In the 2020 census, the population of Tanauan, Leyte, was 57,455 people, with a density of 730 inhabitants per square kilometre or 1,900 inhabitants per square mile.
Religion
Tanauan’s population is entirely Christian, with approximately 96-97% identifying as Roman Catholics. Each village has its own Roman Catholic chapel in addition to the main parish church in the town center. Other Christian groups are also present, including Iglesia ni Cristo, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), Seventh-day Adventists, Evangelicals (Born-Again Christians), Jehovah’s Witnesses, and others.
The town’s patron saint is Our Lady of the Assumption (Nuestra Señora de la Asunción).
